My name is Archibald McLean. I volunteered and proudly served my regiment, the 3rd York Militia, during the War of 1812. I little expected when I last spoke to you that I should now be able to give you an account of an Engagement, which though it terminated in our favor, we shall ever have cause to lament — our loss though small in point of numbers is of the most important kind — We have to deplore the loss of our beloved General Brock and his gallant aide de Camp Colonel Macdonell. Having said so much on a subject which cannot fail to call forth the regret of every individual in the Canadas, I think it now time for you to read the detailed account I left in the library, and recreate the famous Battle of Queenston Heights.
